approach control facility
A terminal air traffic control facility (terminal radar approach control, radar approach control, radar air traffic control, etc.) providing approach control services. It is responsible for controlling all instrument flights operating within its area of responsibility. Approach control may serve one or more airfields, and control is exercised primarily by direct pilot and controller communications.
